Robert E. Walker, 67, of Jefferson, died April 9 at MaineGeneral Medical Center, Thayer Campus surrounded by family and friends. He was born in Lewiston on July 26, 1940, a son of the late Jay A. Walker, Sr. and Marion (Cromwell) Walker.
Mr. Walker attended Sabattus schools and was a veteran of the US Army, serving from 1960 through 1963.
He was the owner/operator of R.E. Walker Electrical and Heating. He was previously employed by the State of Maine Department of Transportation and the Augusta School Department and had worked as a volunteer firefighter for over 50 years, 35 of those years in Jefferson, the last 22 years as its Chief.
Mr. Walker was a member of the First Baptist Church in Jefferson, Lincoln County Fire Chiefs Assoc., Whitefield Lions Club, Maine Fire Chiefs Assoc. and the Maine Antique Tractor Club.
He was an avid fisherman and loved to go camping, especially in the Moosehead Lake area. He loved his family and enjoyed spending time with all of them.
He was pre-deceased by his parents and a sister, Priscilla Fletcher.
Mr. Walker is survived by his wife of 41 years, Ellen L. (Booker) Walker of Jefferson; son, Darin Walker and wife Kelly-Ann of Jefferson; daughter, Donna Walker and fiancé Justin Mooers of Jefferson; two brothers, Jay Walker, Jr. and wife Cheryl of Fairfield and John Walker and wife Diane of Sabattus; five sisters, Helen Morrel of Auburn, Phyllis Splain of Sabattus, Jean Tarr and husband Loyd of Enfield, Conn., Jane Sloat and husband Merlyn of Auburn and Barbara Lyman and husband Harland of Greene; three grandchildren, Kyle Walker, Katie Walker and Brenna-Marie Mooers; brother-in-law, Richard Fletcher of Old Orchard; one aunt, Dot Walker; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visiting hours April 12 at Plummer Funeral Home, 983 Ridge Rd., Rt. 32, Windsor. Funeral service April 13 at the Jefferson Village School, Rt. 126, Jefferson. Burial followed in Shepherd Cemetery, Jefferson.
