Roland A. Lanoue Sr., 84, of Charlton, Mass., passed away peacefully June 14 in his sleep after a recent illness.
Roland was born in Brattleboro, Vt. in 1925, the son of the late Alfred and Mildred (White) Lanoue. He was raised in Jefferson and lived in Marlborough, Mass. and Worcester, Mass. before moving to Charlton in 1958. Mr. Lanoue worked 30 years with Arrow Gas Co. in Rochdale, retiring in 1987. He was a member of The Federated Church of Charlton, The Grafton Wheelers Square Dancing Club, a 50 year member of Worcester Lodge #56 I.O.O.F. and was a loyal union man belonging to Local #170 Teamsters and Truck Drivers AFL/CIO in Worcester. Roland was a very social man who loved to sing and be with people.
Roland is predeceased by his wife of 56 years, Nina A. (LaRose) Lanoue who passed away in 2006; two brothers, Philip and John Gould; and sister, Edna Posa.
He is survived by his son, Roland A. “Butch” Lanoue, Jr. and wife Virginia of Olympia Wash.; two grandchildren, Racquel and Roland Lanoue III; great-granddaughter, Hailie Lanoue; one brother, Kenneth Gould of N. Stonington, Conn.; three sisters, Marie Woodhams of Taneytown, Md., Marie Nichols of Marlborough, and Eleanor LeDuc of Florida; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral service 6 p.m., Thurs., June 18 in The Roney Funeral Home, 152 Worcester St. in North Grafton. He will be laid to rest with his wife 12 p.m., Sat., June 20 in Riverview Cemetery in Richmond, Vt. Calling hours 4-6 p.m., Thurs., June 18 in the funeral home before his funeral service.
