Roland G. McLellan, 84, of Trevett died peacefully on June 8, 2024 in Trevett, surrounded by loved ones. Roland was born in Bath on Oct. 28, 1939, the youngest son of Albert and Dorothy (Campbell) McLellan. He grew up in Boothbay and attended local schools.
Roland owned and operated McLellan’s Upholstery since 1970, after apprenticing under Phil Teague and Al Sherman. Although he started out upholstering furniture, he later turned solely to marine upholstery and canvas covers. Roland always loved the challenge of unusual custom projects, and took great pride in his work, serving more than one generation of the same families.
He was most proud of his two grandsons and their achievements in life and being most impressed by the wonderful young humans they are. Also top on his list was helping son-in-law, Tim, with many ice-carving competitions over the years and bringing home many awards. His family bestowed on him the title of “Master Ice Carving Apprentice.”
Roland was a past officer of the Barter’s Island Community Association, and his interest in restoring old cars led to membership in both the Maine Obsolete Auto League and the Owls Head Transportation Museum. He loved showing off his cars in the antique auto parades and the Windjammer Days parades and would often volunteer to chauffeur the reigning local pageant winners or dignitaries.
He was predeceased by his brothers and sisters-in-laws, Robert (Marie), Philip (Evelyn), and Richard (Gail) McLellan; and sister and brother-in-law, Lois (Bill) Lowans.
He is survived by his loving daughter, Lynda Pierce and her husband, Tim, of Rockport, and their children, grandsons: Ryan Pierce and Jason Pierce, and stepdaughters, Suzanne Perry and her husband, Scott, of Hydeville, Vt., and Danette Williamson and her husband, Larry, of Freeport, Texas. Also surviving him is brother, Myron (Barbara) McLellan; several nieces and nephews; great-nieces and nephews; and great-great-nieces and nephews; along with former wives, Donna McLellan, of Trevett, and Sydney Kay McLellan, of Vermont.
Family and friends are welcome to a time of visitation from 5-7 p.m. on Monday, July 15 at Hall Funeral Home in Boothbay. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, July 16 at the Evergreen Cemetery in Boothbay. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Roland’s memory may be made to Boothbay Food Pantry, P.O.
