Roland Oscar Haskell Jr., 63, of Bath, passed away April 21.
He was born in Boothbay Harbor on May 25, 1953 to Roland Oscar Haskell, from Little Deer Island, and Vivian Smith Haskell from Boothbay Harbor.
He was predeceased by a youngest brother, Dennis Haskell. Both Roland and Dennis served in the Boothbay Harbor Fire Department. Roland was a Traffic Control Fire Police Officer for over 20 years as well as an EMT attendant. He also worked as a janitor at the Boothbay Region YMCA, and at the Boothbay Harbor Freezer & Cold Storage as an attendant. Roland coached a girl’s softball team in Boothbay Harbor.
He loved Gospel and country music. On Sundays, he attended Westport Baptist Church, and evenings at Boothbay Region Community Fellowship. Roland loved animals, (his cat Boots), especially German Shepherds, and spoke fondly of his dog “Tyke.” Roland was an avid lover of NASCAR, and was a Red Sox/Patriots fan. Roland cherished his family and friends in his hometown.
He is survived by brother, James Haskell of New York; and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service, honoring his life, will be held at 4:30 p.m., Sun., May 7 at the American Legion Hall on the Industrial Park Road, by Boothbay Region Community Fellowship. He will lay to rest with his family in Boothbay Harbor.
