On Sept. 14, Rosario Gedeon Cloutier Sr. passed away peacefully at the Togus Hospice Center.
Rosario resided in Whitefield where he lived for many years. He was born on Sept. 28, 1919, to Angelina and Augustin Cloutier and was educated in Augusta area schools.
Rosario served in the U.S. Army from 1944 through 1946.
Throughout his 93 years Rosario worked at Edwards Mfg. Co., Bath Iron Works, and retired from Togus Veterans Administration after 35 years of service there as superintendent of grounds.
He married Juliette Vigue on June 21, 1939.
Rosario was a great gardener, fisherman, and hunter in his younger days. He was a great fan of horse racing, and at one time owned a share of, and helped train several race horses. He enjoyed helping his son Rosario Jr. with the barn chores for the horses as long as he was able.
Rosario was predeceased by 10 sisters and a brother.
He is survived by sons, Norman and wife Myrna of Gardiner, Rosario Jr. and wife Linda of Whitefield, and Paul and wife Debbie of Belgrade Lakes; daughter, Judith and husband Bill Chase of West Gardiner; sisters-in-law Avalon Vigue and Cynthia Vigue; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and grandnieces and grandnephews.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m., Tues., Sept. 17 at Staples Funeral Home, Brunswick Ave., Gardiner.
Services will be at 2 p.m., Wed., Sept. 18 at Staples Funeral Home, Brunswick Ave., Gardiner.
