Roy G. Fisher, 82, died on the evening of April 1 at his home, with his wife and daughter by his side. The son of Robert A. and Louise (Picard) Fisher, he was born June 7, 1923, in New Orleans, La., being raised and receiving his early education in Ponchatoula, La. On Jan. 1, 1942 Roy entered the U.S. Navy serving honorably, in WWII, on a patrol craft vessel in the Caribbean and Gulf of Mexico. He was discharged June 3, 1945, as Gunners Mate 2nd class, at which time the Navy entered him into the V12 Program at Harvard University. Continuing his education at Northeastern, he earned his engineering degree and for the remainder of his career worked as a structural engineer for several engineering firms. Roy retired from the John Mutch Corporation in Norwood, Mass., and after 34 years in Walpole, he and his wife retired to New Harbor in 1988. While in Walpole he served the town in various positions including Zoning Bylaw Committee, Planning Board, Finance Committee, and Selectman and was an active member of the Union Congregational Church, in East Walpole, serving as Deacon. Following his retirement, Roy continued to be active in his new community, serving as a volunteer in the library at Miles Memorial Hospital. He also helped to organize the book section at the annual Miles Memorial Rummage Sale for many years. He was predeceased by his sister Sophie Lee. He leaves and will be missed by his wife of 58 years, Anna-Lisa (Isakson) Fisher of Damariscotta; daughter, Lisa Fisher Gerrish of Cape Cod, Mass.; sisters, Clarisse Jones of Ponchatoula, and Blanche Burroughs of Baton Rouge, La.; many nieces, nephews; and great-nieces and great-nephews. Friends are invited to visit and pay their respects with the family 12-1 p.m., Sat., April 8 at the Strong Funeral Home, 612 Main St., Damariscotta. Service to honor Roy will follow at 1 p.m., with Rev. Kenneth Dale officiating. He will be laid to rest at the Massachusetts National Cemetery, in Bourne, Mass.
