Roy St. George Ralph, 93, of Waldoboro, a humble and compassionate man, died peacefully in his home the afternoon of June 6 surrounded by his loved ones.
Roy grew up learning the value of patience and humility. Having left school before graduation to help support his mother and siblings, he acquired responsibility and wisdom beyond any college degree. He passed that wisdom onto to his children and grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
On a summer day in the early 30s, he saw the love of his life standing on the porch of Damariscotta Lake Farm. After several escapades including taking the roof of his car off as he drove through a chicken coop, he got the courage to ask this woman to be his bride. His love for this woman grew every year during their 68 years of marriage. Roy served honorably for 3 ½ years in the Army Air Force in Valdosta, Ga., after which he and Berdina moved back to Maine to start a family.
His brother, the entrepreneur of the family, opened a Chevrolet dealership in Waldoboro, where Roy worked and was Service Manager for 32 years. He loved boating, fishing, golf and spending time on Damariscotta Lake but mostly just being with his family. Roy was a member of Charles C. Lilly American Legion Post #149 and the Waldoboro United Methodist Church.
Roy was preceded in death by his son, Gary Ralph in 1996.
In addition to his loving wife Berdina Ralph, Roy is survived by his daughter, Rebecca Savage and husband Bruce of Phippsburg; daughter-in-law, Ann Ralph of Boulder, Col.; sister, Evelyn Miller of Waldoboro; grandson, Trevor Ralph of Cumming, Ga.; granddaughter, Melanie Wilson of Boulder, Col.; six great-grandchildren.
Relatives and friends are invited to join the family for a graveside service, to celebrate Mr. Ralph’s life 1 p.m., Sat., June 11 in the Orff’s Corner Cemetery. Rev. Robert E. Dorr will officiate.
Should friends so desire, donations in Mr. Ralph’s memory may be made to CHANS Home Health Care, 60 Baribeau Dr., Brunswick, ME 04011 or to the Phippsburg Fire and Rescue, 1042 Main Rd., Phippsburg, ME 04562.
