Rufus C. Short, 91, died July 1 at his residence. Rufus was a graduate of Lincoln Academy in Newcastle, Williams College, Carnegie Institute of Technology, and the University of Rochester.
A veteran of WWII and the Korean Conflict, he served in the both the Navy and Army. He was formerly employed in the printing industry, taught at Rochester Institute of Technology, and retired from Battelle Memorial Institute in 1989 after 20 years in research and administration.
A member of Trinity Episcopal Church, he served as senior warden, vestryman and parish administrator. He was a former volunteer with the Columbus Literacy Council and a member of Printing House Craftsmen and the Central Ohio Fly Fishers.
He is survived by son, Geoffrey B. Short and wife Kristin; daughter, Laurel Beard and husband Michael; grandchildren, Emily Beard, Alex Beard, and Julia McClure; step-grandchildren, Tiffany Lichtenberger and Andrew Festa; brother, Geer Morton of San Diego; seven great-grandchildren; and four nieces.
A private family interment service will be held at Trinity Episcopal Church July 15.
