Russell James Griffin, 75, of Edgecomb, passed away Feb. 1 surrounded by his loving family.
He was born in Gloucester, Mass. on Feb. 20, 1934, the son of Russell and Hester (Henderson) Griffin. He attended Gloucester High School, and served in the Army Engineering Corp. Russell took great pride in occupation which he learned while in the service. He was the former co-owner of Griffin and Woodman Construction in Essex, Mass., and served on the local planning board.
He moved to Maine with his family in 1974 where he has resided for the last 36 years. He owned and operated RJ Griffin & Sons Contractors Inc. in Edgecomb, he also served as road commissioner for the town of Edgecomb for many years.
He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He loved boating, and was a member of the Wiscasset Yacht club. He was an accomplished skier and loved the outdoors.
He is predeceased by his father, Russell E. Griffin of Gloucester, Mass.; mother, Hester M. (Henderson) Griffin of Essex, Mass.; sister, Elaine A. (Griffin) Mckay of Essex, Mass.; and aunt and uncle, Madith and Everett Henderson of Essex, Mass.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Sandra R (Hersey) Griffin of Edgecomb; sons, Gregory R. Griffin of Wiscasset, and Scott R. Griffin of Edgecomb; grandchildren, Joshua and wife Sara Griffin of Mexico, Jacob Griffin of Dresden, Conrad and Cody Griffin of Wiscasset, and Ashley Griffin of Newcastle; great-granddaughter, Riley Manhart of Bath; nieces, Deborah (Mckay) Kitchin of Salisbury, Mass., and Barbara (Mckay) Eldridge of Seabrook, N.H.; nephew, Mark Mckay of Essex, Mass.; several great-nieces and nephews; and cousins, Dennis, Michael and James Henderson of Essex, Mass.
Graveside burial 2 p.m., Thurs., Feb. 4 at the Spring Street Cemetery, Essex, Mass.
