Ruth Erica Scheuzger, nee Hadorn, 75, of Waldoboro, formerly of Highland Park Ill., and originally from Switzerland, died May 4 at Miles Memorial Hospital in Damariscotta. Beloved wife of Peter; beloved mother of Thomas and wife Andrea, Brian and wife Amanda and son Samuel; and the late Kathryn, dearest sister-in-law and aunt to many relatives in Switzerland; supportive, loving friend and neighbor to many, she will be greatly missed.
Born in Basel, Switzerland in 1930, Ruth, a violinist and music teacher, received her degree in music at the Musik Academie der Stadt Basel. She met Peter in 1952 and they were married in Basel in 1955. Together, they left Switzerland in July of that year and emigrated to the United States. They lived in Chicago for several years, then suburban Evanston, Ill., and finally Highland Park, Ill., where they raised their three children. In 1992, Peter and Ruth retired to Waldoboro to an old shipbuilder’s home on the Medomak River. Ruth taught violin for 23 years at Lake Forest College in Ill. She played with the Chicago Chamber Orchestra, Lake Forest and North Suburban Symphonies in Illinois, Midcoast Chamber Orchestra in Maine, numerous quartets and ensembles, and taught violin privately for many years. She was an active member of the Broad Bay Congregational United Church of Christ in Waldoboro. She was an avid reader and logic and word puzzle enthusiast. She loved songbirds, pets, houseplants, wildlife, the ocean and lighthouses, and especially classical music. Her passion and peace were found within the strings of her violin and viola and at the keys of her piano.
