Ruth J. Winchenbach, 89, of Waldoboro, died June 30 at Cove’s Edge in Damariscotta. She was born Oct. 25, 1921 in Rockland to Albert and Georgia Jones McLellan. Ruth grew up in Rockland and attended local schools. She worked in New Jersey for a brief time and moved back to Waldoboro. She worked at GTE Sylvania in Waldoboro. She met Everett Winchenbach and they got married in 1949. They settled in Dutch Neck and lived there for over 50 years.
Ruth raised her family and then began work as a C.N.A. in Camden. Ruth ran many toy parties over the years. She enjoyed knitting and was part of a knitting circle for many years. She was a long time member of the Waldoboro United Methodist Church, Meenahga Grange and St. Paul’s Society in Dutch Neck. She bowled in several leagues over the years. She and her husband loved to dance and square dance.
She is predeceased by her husband, Everett Winchenbach; daughter, Rosemarie Winchenbach; sister, Edith Jameson; and brother, Bill McLellan.
She is survived by sons, Sanford Winchenbach of Waldoboro and Aaron Winchenbach and wife Jennifer of Fort Mill, S.C.; daughters, Jessica Sprowl and husband Larry of Chesapeake, Va. and Katrina Winchenbach of Portland; grandchildren, Derek Gifford of Portland, Amanda Rose Thorndike of North Haven, Hannah Hill and husband Caleb of Virginia Beach, Va., Ethan Thorndike of North Haven; Maggie Zall of Portland, Michael Everett Winchenbach of Fort Mill, S.C., and Sarah Bailey Winchenbach of Fort Mill, S.C.; brother, Donald McLellan of N.Y.; and several nieces and nephews.
Service to celebrate Ruth’s life 1 p.m., Wed., July 6 at St. Paul’s Church, Dutch Neck Road, Waldoboro with Rev. Beverly Blaisdell and Rev. Robert Dorr officiating. Burial will be in the German Protestant Cemetery in Waldoboro.
