Ruth Mae Morton, 65, of Rockport, passed away April 29 after a short illness. She was born Jan. 22, 1943 to Donald and Geneva (Simmons) Pierce.
Ruth was a High Honors graduate of Rockport High School, class of 1962. During her high school years, she was a majorette with the school band, cheerleader with the Beaverettes all four years, was a Seaside Wonderland Queen candidate, and went on the annual Washington trip during her senior year. She attended the Plus School of Business in Portland following graduation.
Ruth married her high school sweetheart, Kenneth S. Morton, Sr., in 1962, and they were married for 46 years. They continued to make their home in Rockport, where they owned and operated Ken s Electric and Refrigeration, where Ruth also served as the business manager for over 40 years.
Ruth and her husband loved to travel together, and they traveled many miles by motorcycle. Ruth also enjoyed spending time in her vegetable garden, as well as embroidering. From the age of 12 until her passing, she shared a special and close friendship with her pen pal from Norwalk, Ohio, totaling 53 years.
During their married life, Ruth and Ken raised two children and in later years helped raise two of their grandchildren. Ruth was a caring, loving and devoted friend, mother, wife, grandmother, daughter and sister.
She is survived by her husband, Kenneth Morton, Sr.; mother, Geneva Pierce of Rockport; mother-in-law, Marguerite Regnier of Camden; daughter, Jill Morton of Rockport; son, Kenneth Morton, Jr. and wife Sharilyn of Rockport; two sisters, Patricia Steel and husband Robert of Franklin, Mass., and Donna Barrows and husband Jay, of So. Thomaston; two brothers, Allison Pierce and wife Marjorie of Rockport, and Donald E. Pierce and wife Laurie of Owls Head; four grandchildren, Isak Potter and Ali Potter of Rockport, and Ashley Morton and Morgan Porter of Rockport; many cousins, nieces, and nephews; and her faithful companion, “Jenny”.
At Ruth’s request, no services will be held.
