Ruth Lyman Rigg, 98, of Camden, died May 8 at Anderson Inn at Quarry Hill. Born on Feb. 28, 1910 in Boston, Mass., she was the daughter of Herbert and Ruth W. (Bowman) Lyman. She was a graduate of the Winsor School in Boston, Mass., she attended Bryn Mawr College and Radcliffe, and graduated from Case Western Reserve University. She married Horace A. Rigg, Jr. in 1934. Dr. Rigg was the Severance Professor of History of Religion at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio from 1937 to 1977.
She was predeceased by her husband, Horace A. Rigg, Jr. who died in 1978 and her son, Peter W. Rigg who died in 1977.
Surviving are her three daughters, Alexandra R. Samaras, Diana I. Rigg and partner John S. Coggins, all of Camden, and Margaret R. Atwood and husband John of Newcastle; son, Jonathan L. Rigg of Brunswick; a sister, Lydia W. Lyman of Bar Harbor; five grandchildren, Christian Buehner and wife Michelle, Amy McNaughton and husband Peter, Peter Buehner, Julia Stewart, and Elizabeth Stewart; and three great-grandchildren, Abram and Laurel Buehner, and Stuart McNaughton.
Services will be private and held at the convenience of the family.
