Sally Halverson, 93, longtime resident of Newcastle, passed peacefully at her home surrounded by family on Dec. 9 of natural causes.
Sally was born in Rye, N.Y., daughter of George and Myrtle Gascoigne. She went to Dickinson College until WWII then worked at the Norden Bomb site as a draftsman. After the war she married Richard Halverson; they lived in Minnesota, Texas, Miami, Florida, and Long Island, N.Y. until relocating to Newcastle in 1973.
Sally owned Locust Vally Antiques on Long Island and Maine Antiques on Route 1 in Wiscasset until retiring in 1997. While in New York she was a special consultant to both Sotheby’s and Park-Benet Auction houses in NYC for period furniture and artwork.
Sally touched many people with her wonderful personality and gracious attitude.
She was predeceased by her husband of 68 years, Richard.
She is survived by sister, Nancy Richards; brother, Bob Gascoigne; son, Ren; daughter-in-law, Crickett; grandchildren, Eric, Reny, and Hunter Halverson; and great-grandchildren, Piper and Finn.
