Samuel “Charlie” C. Norbeck, 94, of Alna, died Nov. 25 at his residence.
He was born in Philadelphia, Penn. on Jan. 30, 1916, the youngest of eight children, a son of Phillip and Mary Ann (Kane) Norbeck.
He served in the U.S. Navy for four years during WWII and was employed by the U.S. Postal Service for 17 years in Centerport, N.Y., retiring in 1978. He was partners in a trucking business with Lester Eckert Sr. named Ecknor Trucking in Huntington Station, Long Island, N.Y. He moved to Florida after retiring and moved to Alna in 2002.
He was a dear friend of the Eckert family for 56 years, Lester and Agnes Eckert and their children.
He was predeceased by brothers, Milmont, Francis, Alousius, Robert and William; and sisters, Kathryn and Mary.
He is survived by his goddaughter, Pamela Eckert George and husband John W. Bailey; godson, Thomas B. George Jr. and fiancée Krista Oberuch, all of Alna; their family, Veronica Bretton and her husband Eric of Gorham, Melody Shalins and husband Linwood Greenleaf of Topsham, Cynthia Rego and husband Mark of Alna; and friend, Rodger Hotcaveg of North Carolina.
There will be no services.
