Sarah Janette Young, 86, of Waldoboro, passed away peacefully Nov. 24 at Cove’s Edge in Damariscotta.
Sarah was born Dec. 4, 1931 in Waldoboro, the daughter of Donald Young and Lucy (Shuman) Young.
Sarah grew up in Waldoboro and graduated from Waldoboro High School in 1949. She worked at the Paragon Button Factory in Waldoboro and at Port Clyde Fish factory in Port Clyde and Rockland for a long time.
She was an avid reader and, after losing her eyesight, she enjoyed talking books from the state library. She enjoyed country western music, and she was fond of animals, especially her cats. In her younger days she enjoyed riding and showing her beloved horse Lucky in local parades where he won many ribbons. Sarah also enjoyed her vegetable gardens and canning and freezing everything she could get her hands on.
Sarah is predeceased by her parents; and brother, Charles Young.
Sarah is survived by several cousins and special friends, Earl, Louise and John Reynolds of Waldoboro, Tammy and Pat Harrington of Augusta, and Joel, Stephanie and Andy Shuman of Waldoboro.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m., Fri., Nov. 30 with a reception to follow at Hall Funeral Home, 949 Main St., Waldoboro, with Pastor Tom Rawley officiating.
