Scott Nelson Riley, 35, of Stockton Springs, passed away unexpectedly on June 29. He was born Feb. 13, 1975 in Bangor, the son of Nelson G. and Elizabeth (Chandler) Riley.
Scott served his country in the U.S. Navy. After serving his country, he became an offshore fisherman which allowed him to be on the water. Scott’s passion was his boat the Mistress. In addition to spending countless hours fishing and maintaining the Mistress, he was also happy to bring friends out on cruises around the bay.
Scott had offshore fishing in his blood but was also a skilled carpenter, welder and arborist. He could fix just about anything. When he wasn’t on the boat, Scott spent much of his time brook trout fishing, hunting, four-wheeling, camping, grilling and anything else that kept him outside. He loved and appreciated good music whether it was blues, bluegrass, Johnny Cash or Joss Stone, he listened to it all day no matter what he was doing.
Although Scott traveled all over, his favorite place was the family property in Brooklin where he spent many summers as a child and visited often as an adult. Scott loved his family and his friends more than anything. Scott was thoughtful, caring and generous and would do anything to help someone in need. He was a fantastic story teller and a great listener. He was funny, honest, hard-working and real. Scott was who he was, take it or leave it, all or nothing.
He was predeceased by his maternal grandmother, Emily Chandler and paternal grandfather, Herbert Riley.
Scott is survived by his loving parents, Nelson Riley and wife Pam of West Rockport, and Betty Larrabee and boyfriend Bruce Stubbs of Belfast; girlfriend, Ariel Pardee of Northport; sisters, Beth Corey and boyfriend Chuck Thompson of Waldo, Brianna Riley and boyfriend Shawn Archibald of Augusta; step-brothers, Chris and Dan Dalfonso; paternal grandmother, Irene Riley of Belfast; maternal grandfather, Bernard Chandler of Belfast; nephews, Cody and Jaden; two dogs, Daisy and Tank; and many friends in Belfast, Damariscotta and fishing communities near and far.
Memorial service 1 p.m., Mon., July 5 at Crabiel-Riposta Funeral Home, 182 Waldo Ave., Belfast with a celebration of life to follow 3 p.m. at the Lookout Bar & Grill, Front St., Belfast.
