Captain Shawn Christopher Ernest McLellan, 38, of Boothbay, known as “Ralphy” to his friends and family, died peacefully in his sleep on May 17.
He was born April 27, 1970 to Myron and Barbara Murphy McLellan. Shawn leaves behind his wife Stace and children Gage and Jordan.
Shawn grew up on the water in a fishing family. While still in diapers, his dad took him aboard the F/V Barbara L. Later he fished with his dad and brother Cameron and in the F/V Elizabeth, of which he later became captain and owner.
Shawn spent his life doing one of the things he enjoyed most, catching fish. As captain of F/V Elizabeth he ranged the gulf of Maine and Georges Banks in search of fish. He was known on the dock as the “golden boy of the Atlantic Ocean”. His best friend was his father, from whom he always sought advice. He was known for always ending a conversation with family members by saying “Love Ya”. To all who knew him, Shawn was known as a loving, caring and giving friend.
Shawn was an avid hunter who enjoyed the hunt for the white tail as much as catching fish.
His passion for NASCAR was a constant family joke, “don’t ever call Ralphy when NASCAR is on TV”. He was known as one of the most caring, giving, and loving persons who you would ever meet.
Shawn is survived by his wife, Stace Hodgdon McLellan; children, Gage and Jordan of Boothbay; parents, Myron and Barbara McLellan of Trevett; sisters, Margaret McLellan of Bath, Bet Finocchiaro of Boothbay, and Ruth White of Southport; brother, Cameron McLellan of Portland; nieces, Gretchen, Sarah and Rachel Lauriat of Boothbay, and Brianna McLellan of Newcastle; nephews, Sam and Mac Arrington of Boothbay, Jesse Drinkwater of Southport, Drew White of Southport, Cameron White of Southport, Dustin McLellan of Newcastle, and Brenden McLellan of Newcastle; and two great nieces, Campbell Drinkwater of Bath, and Natalie Gamage of Boothbay.
