Sheldon E. Burnham, 74, of East Boothbay, passed away Jan. 20 with his wife, daughter, and brother Douglas at his side.
Sheldon was born Aug. 5, 1934, in Linekin, to Lester and Louise (Rice) Burnham. He graduated from Boothbay Region High in 1953 and married the love of his life, Freda Nichols, in 1960.
Sheldon returned to Maine from Connecticut in 1972 to be near his other love, the ocean. He lobstered until 2007 on the FV Daughter Ann, which he built.
In his free time he loved auto racing, camping, dancing, and enjoying the company of his family and many friends.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Freda; daughter, Ann McBride and husband Jim of Ellington, Conn.; his treasured grandsons, Matthew and Zachary; brothers, Parker and wife Phyllis, Stanley and wife Toni, all of Dallas, N.C., Douglas and wife Doris of Sawyer’s Island, and Cecil of South Bristol; sisters, Beverly and Maude Winchenbach and husband Gerald, all of Rockland; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
A private service for family will be held at the East Boothbay Methodist Church. Celebration of Sheldon’s life will be held this spring, a notice of the date will be published.
