Shirley Banks Waltz, 81, of Damariscotta, passed away with her family by her side on the afternoon of Jan. 31. Born in Searsmont on Sept. 7, 1928, she was the daughter of Willis and Carrie (Stickney) Banks.
She moved to Damariscotta in 1943 and graduated from Lincoln Academy in 1945. During the war, she worked for Western Union and was also the secretary for the County Attorney, Charles Giles, until his death.
She later worked at Pine Grove Drive-In for many years as a cook, and did catering work out of her own home. She was a member of the Damariscotta Baptist Church.
She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Waldo W. Waltz of Damariscotta; children, Perry and wife Catherine of Damariscotta, Denise Morang of Damariscotta, Debra Benner and husband Darrell of Newcastle, and Scott Waltz of St. Petersburg, Fla.; grandchildren, Josh Waltz, Matthew Waltz and wife Hanna, Kristie Clark and husband Bob, Kerry Wunder and husband Scott, Kayla Benner and Dylan Benner; great-grandchildren, Bob Clark, Bailey Clark, Kortney Sheeder and Nathaniel Sheeder; brother, Willis Banks Jr. of Belfast; and sisters, Pauline Mann and Phyllis Lockwood, both of North Attleboro, Mass.
Time of visitation 11 a.m. – 1 p.m., Wed., Feb. 3 at the Strong-Hancock Funeral Home, 612 Main St., Damariscotta. Service 1 p.m. at the funeral home. She will be laid to rest at the Hillside Cemetery in Damariscotta in the spring.
