Shirley Bracey Dyer, 96, a longtime resident of Maine, passed away on June 1 in Las Vegas, Nev.
Shirley was born on March 26, 1919 in Franklin. She was one of eight children born to Frank and Idis Bracey, and at the time of her death was the last surviving sibling. Shirley’s father was a lighthouse keeper, and she enjoyed several years of her childhood on Eagle Island and Seguin Island. During her high school years, she lived in a boarding house in Camden.
Shirley was recognized as a woman of many talents, especially her skills as a seamstress and a cook. She was also a real estate agent, toastmistress, painter, and in later years, a model.
Shirley was married to Allen L. Dyer, also from Maine, on Oct. 22, 1938. Allen passed away in 1984. Shirley married Ralph Richards of Falmouth in 2001. Ralph predeceased Shirley.
She is survived by son, Dana D. Dyer and wife Lynn of Bristol; daughter, Nadine D. Strong of Las Vegas, Nev.; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Sat., June 27 in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints chapel located at 61 Belvedere Rd., Damariscotta.
