Shirley Jameson (née Kendall), 91, passed away June 27 in Boothbay Harbor, her home of 30 years. She was born July 22, 1926 in Melrose, Mass. She had come to Boothbay Harbor in 1944 with Daniel Jameson, her husband of 70 years.
Shirley’s lifelong love affair with the violin began at age nine and continued through many teachers, orchestras, chamber groups, and musical offerings in every church community that she served, as well as at St. Andrews Village where she lived for the last seven years. She also trained as a dental hygienist at Forsyth Dental School, practicing for over 20 years before and after her most active family-raising years.
She gave years of support to St. Andrews Thrift Shop, the Boothbay Harbor Memorial Library Used Book Store, Midcoast Chamber Orchestra, Southcoast Youth Orchestra, and Lincoln Arts Chorale, and participated in Newagen Chamber Music Workshops for several seasons. In her boundless enthusiasm for the natural beauty of the region, she loved trail walking, swimming in the cove, and celebrating family gatherings at the farmhouse.
She is survived by her husband, Daniel Jameson; daughters, Anne Wissler (Timothy), Ellen Tremblay (Mark), Judy Sykes (Timothy), and Susan Jameson (Frances Madden); and grandchildren, Christopher Tremblay (Mary), Kendall Sykes, and Daniel Sykes.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m., Fri., July 20 at St. Columba’s Episcopal Church followed by a reception at St. Andrews Village.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in her honor may be made to St. Columba’s Episcopal Church, 32 Emery Lane, Boothbay Harbor, ME 04538; or DaPonte String Quartet, P.O. Box 401, Damariscotta ME 04543.
