Shirley M. Hill, 85, of Wiscasset, died Jan. 6 at her residence surrounded by friends and family.
She was born in Boston, Mass. on March 20, 1933, a daughter of Frank H. and Bridget (Danaher) Grant.
She moved to Wiscasset as a young girl and graduated from Wiscasset Academy in 1950. She entered the U.S. Navy in Great Lakes, Ill. and served during the Korean War. On Oct. 3, 1952 she married Ray T. Hill. She traveled with her husband throughout his military career, raising five children. In 1965 they moved back to Wiscasset. Shirley worked in private nursing care and was employed at the Plant Memorial Home in Bath as a medical technician for 25 years.
She was predeceased by her husband, Ray T. Hill on Aug. 1, 1994; brother, Ed Grant; and grandchildren, Anthony Davis and Tabatha Fowler.
She is survived by son, Dennis Hill and wife Cindy of Edgecomb; daughters, Cindy Fowler and husband Kenny of Edgecomb, Kathy Buck and husband Peter of Machias, Patricia Davis and husband Ralein of Virginia, and Mary Ann Bradshaw of Virginia; special granddaughter, Heather Davenport and husband William with whom Shirley lived for several loving years; 12 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at Woodlawn Cemetery in Wiscasset in the spring.
