Sidney F. “Papabear” Mainville, 62, of Whitefield, passed away April 13 at MaineGeneral Medical Center, Augusta, with his family by his side.
He was born a proud Native American in Ft. Francis, Ontario, Canada on April 3, 1945, the son of Chief Augustine Mainville and Marie (Lyons) Mainville.
He was the best dad in the world, and an honest, hardworking family man. He was also a loving husband who cherished the important things in life.
He enjoyed fishing, playing catch, reading, and attending his children’s sporting events.
He was a good-natured man whose contagious smile will always be remembered. Everyone who knew Sid loved and respected him. He truly made this world a better place.
Sidney was employed as a welder by Bath Iron Works for over 25 years. He was previously employed by Cianbro Construction Co., and General Electric in So. Portland. As a younger man, he spent his summers as a fishing guide in Canada while working for a railroad company.
He was predeceased by his brother, Ralph Mainville, and his parents.
Surviving are his wife, Bonnie (Gallagher) Mainville of Whitefield; son, Joshua Mainville of Portland; daughters, Melissa Mainville and Katie Mainville, both of Whitefield; brother, Gary Mainville of Kremmer, Wyo.; sister, Marilyn Thompson and husband Wray of Toronto, Ontario, Canada; loving mother-in-law, Lenore Gallagher of Augusta; several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; several cousins in Canada; and many nieces, and nephews.
Visiting hours 5-7 p.m., Wed., April 18 at Plummer Funeral Home, 983 Ridge Rd., Rt. 32, Windsor, where a funeral service will follow at 7 p.m.
Burial will be later this spring.
