Stanley Williams, 89, of Boothbay Harbor, died May 5 at St. Andrews Village Gregory Wing in Boothbay Harbor. He was born Nov. 9, 1921 in Suffern, N.Y. to Thomas L. Williams and Clara Baird Williams. Stanley grew up in Highland Falls, N.Y. The family later moved to Suffern, N.Y. and Mahwah, N.J. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII and was stationed at the Panama Canal.
He worked in Mahwah for Ward Pavements Company for 20 years. He later owned and operated Milford Asphalt Company for 15 years until he retired to Ocean Point in 1981. In retirement, he worked for Poole Brothers Lumber in Boothbay Harbor for 10 years.
Stanley was a 32nd Degree member of Bay View Masonic Lodge in East Boothbay, and the Shriners. He also served on several boards in Boothbay. He and his wife Ruth loved to travel, traveling to Mexico, Ireland, Nova Scotia and enjoyed going to the “Tattoo” in Halifax for many years. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening, cooking and a good glass of scotch.
He was predeceased by his wife, Ruth Courtney Williams who died Aug. 12, 2010; sister, Lucille Witmer; and brothers, John “Bud” Williams and Bertram “Skeet” Williams.
He is survived by sons, Peter Williams and wife Mary of East Boothbay and Llewellyn Williams and wife Laurie of Harriman, N.Y.; daughter, Kathleen Herrington and husband Gary of Wyomissing, Penn.; sister, Beth Linton of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; and grandchildren, Christopher Williams of Somerville, Mass., Brian Williams and wife Julie of Bangor, Patrick Herrington and wife Melissa of St. Petersburg, Fla., Daniel Herrington and wife Jessica of St. Petersburg, Fla., Melissa Williams of Harriman, N.Y. and Michael Williams of Harriman, N.Y.
A private family gathering was held at Simmons, Harrington & Hall Funeral Home May 8.
