The Reverend Robert A. Jewett, 69, of Waldoboro, passed away Feb. 23 at Miles Memorial Hospital in Damariscotta.
Rev. Jewett was educated at Amherst College, and the General Theological Seminary in New York City, N.Y.
He tended his goats and they became the basis for many a sermon. He baked up a storm and those creations were often the center of fabulous celebrations. He sawed and hammered, making his “85%” accurate display cabinets, bookcases, fireplace mantles, and farm pens that would become a part of the lovely farm on which he lived.
There was not much that Bob Jewett could not do. He sang, wrote stories, and made beautiful blankets for each of his six granddaughters. His friends and family considered him truly a Renaissance man.
He worked all his life for wholeness, peace, and healing – in the world, in the church, in the community, and in relationships between people. Striving for tolerance, equality and justice, he brought people together to listen to points of views different from their own. His legacy is peace and understanding to all people.
Surviving are his wife, Gail Montgomery of Waldoboro; sons, Frank Jewett and wife Karen of Nyack, N.Y.; Stephen Jewett and wife Jennifer of Eagle, Col., Joshua Jewett and wife Christine of Charlotte, N.C., and Shane McGarvey and wife Michelle of Portland; and six granddaughters.
