Thomas M. Prytherch Jr., 74, of West Boothbay Harbor, passed away July 16 at the Midcoast Hospital in Brunswick with his loving family by his side.
Tom grew up on the north shore of Long Island, N.Y. where he started art instruction at an early age. He attended, and graduated from the University of Pennsylvania, Wharton School of Finance. He also studied art in Europe and the Far East when he traveled while working in the fashion industry.
Tom lived on his sailboat for many years, where he cruised out of New England and the Bahamas, and became a captain licensed to take boats up and down the Atlantic seaboard. He was an avid diver as well as a serious artist and his work reflected what he had seen on and under the water.
For many years, Tom lived in South Florida and his work has been shown there in prominent galleries. He had been commissioned to create custom art and sculpture for a number of businesses and large yachts.
Tom retired from the city of Fort Lauderdale, Fla. as the assistant buyer for the city. He worked for the Fisherman’s Wharf in Boothbay Harbor for 12 years.
Tom and his wife, Carol, also an artist, moved to Maine so that the coastal beauty would help them to expand their work. Tom worked and lived with his wife, Carol, in their West Boothbay Harbor Studio they call “The Magic Cottage.”
Tom and Carol were involved with the fund raising for the Boothbay Harbor Playhouse and the Boothbay Harbor Region Land Trust.
