Thomas Vigue, 91, lifelong resident of Whitefield, died Dec. 24 at the Augusta Rehabilitation Center surrounded by his family. He was born in Whitefield on Feb. 7, 1919, a son of Arthur and Amanda Bursque Vigue.
Tom was raised on a dairy farm and continued operating the family farm. Over the years Tom received several awards from raising dairy cattle. He was also a selectman and fire chief for the town of Whitefield. Tom was a strong, caring family man who always voiced his opinion whether appropriate or not.
Tom and Avalon spent several winters in Bowling Green, Fla. He loved to travel and in the summertime would attend every horse pulling event at the state fairs. He enjoyed attending his children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events and spending time deer hunting and fishing with his boys. Tom was also an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox for many, many years.
He was predeceased by a son, Brian Paul Vigue and his eleven brothers and sisters.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Avalon Goud Vigue of Whitefield; children, Thomas L. and wife Linda of Whitefield, Dean A. and wife Jean of Whitefield, Gary M. and partner Shirley Warren of Whitefield, Timothy E. and partner John Hume of Litchfield, Jeffrey L. and wife Bethany of Whitefield and Julie A. Vigue of Lahaina, Hawaii; brother-in-law, Rosario Cloutier Sr. of Whitefield; sister-in-law, Cynthia Vigue of Gardiner; granddaughters, Shannon Brann and husband James, Sarah Finley and husband Steven, and Jennifer Vigue; grandsons, Shawn Vigue and wife Kimberly, Brian, Thomas, Jeffrey Jr., and Jacob; great-grandchildren, Olivia and Cassidy Brann and Carter Vigue; several nieces and nephews; and special family friend Sue Garcia.
Calling hours Sun., Jan. 2, 1-4 p.m. with the memorial service to start at 3 p.m. at Staples Funeral Home 53 Brunswick Ave., Gardiner.
