Thomas W. Simmons III, 25, of Waldoboro, died on Aug. 25 in Waldoboro.
He was born Oct. 25, 1981 in Damariscotta, a son of Thomas W. and Laurie (Nickles) Simmons, Jr.
On July 22, 2007, he married his longtime girlfriend, Christine Kaboskie, at the Orff’s Corner Community Church in Waldoboro.
Tom will always be remembered as a caring, giving person.
Because of a home-based Internet business to which he belonged, he learned that life is all about attitude, dreams and goals. He believed you have the choice to be happy no matter what the circumstances. Tom applied these traits to every aspect of his life and had a tremendous impact on the lives of all those around him.
Tom was very much a family person and always made sure the family was doing well. His priority was making sure he would be able to take care of his mom, dad and especially his grandmother, Jean, whom he always called his second mother. In his wedding with Chrissy he was proud to have two “moms” with whom to dance.
Tom also enjoyed spending time with his sisters. He loved to pester Brandie and her husband Matt into the wee hours of the morning and helped her out whenever needed. Tom was always telling his sister Ashley just what’s what and making her “ugly” at him by aggravating her in a loving way, but no matter what he was willing to lend a helping hand. Tom’s nieces, Logan and Whitney, and nephew Cyrus and his cousin Jon Jon were also important to him. He was always doing things with them. His young wife Chrissy shared TW’s traits and enjoyed doing all of these things together with him.
In addition to his wonderful family values Tom also had a great work ethic, which he developed by spending all of his time with his grandfather, Tom Sr., and his father, Tom Jr. Tom was told by his lobster captains that he was the best sternman they had ever had and was always praised by other captains for being the good worker he was. Unlike most fisherman and clam diggers who would never tell how well they were doing, Tom would tell he had seven hods of clams and right where he got them.
While living life to the fullest Tom developed many interests. Of course, the most valuable to him was having family get-togethers because he loved seeing families be close, loving and having fun. In addition he found joy in fishing, hunting, bowling, golf, snowmobiling and four-wheeling. Because of his relationship with his late grandpa he wanted to follow in Papa’s footsteps and thus developed quite the green thumb – and loved gardening with Chrissy.
Tom is preceded in death by his grandfathers, Carl Nickles of Union and Thomas W. Simmons, Sr. of Waldoboro and his uncle David Nickles of Union.
In addition to his wife, Christine “Chrissy” (Kaboskie) Simmons of Waldoboro, Tom is survived by his parents, Thomas W. and Laurie (Nickles) Simmons, Jr. of Waldoboro; sisters, Brandie Delano and husband Matt of Waldoboro, and Ashley Simmons and partner MJ Niles of Waldoboro; nieces, Logan Delano and Whitney Niles; nephew, Cyrus Delano; paternal grandmother, Jean Simmons of Waldoboro; maternal grandmother, Alberta Nickles of Union; mother-in-law, Catherine (Kaboskie) Bradley of Waldoboro; father-in-law, Stanley W.
