Vi Pieh, 92, of Bremen, died on Sept. 6 at home, surrounded by family and friends. Born in Sweden, Vi came to the U.S. with her family when she was five. They lived mostly in the Midwest, and went back and forth to Sweden before eventually settling in Madison. A graduate of the University of Wisconsin, Vi was the program director of the first women’s Outward Bound course in the United States, as well as a biology teacher and the mother of three rambunctious children. A person who was dedicated to the well being of everyone, Vi always encouraged others to follow their hearts and to be well. After her retirement she settled in the Franklin School Apartments where she lived for many years, and became the chauffeur for many other elderly folks in the area who could no longer drive.
Vi is survived by her twin sister Gunvor; children, Jerry and wife Lucy, and Wendy and husband Peter; grandchildren, Chris, Dave, Katie, Kelly, M and Tim; nine great-grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
There is no formal service planned.
