Victor V. Burnheimer, 85, of Waldoboro, died peacefully at Miles Memorial Hospital on June 21.
He was the son of Victor V. Burnheimer, Sr., and Sara Grotton Burnheimer of North Nobleboro.
Victor graduated from Maine Central Institute in Pittsfield in 1940. He attended Colby College prior to enlisting in the Army in December of 1942. He served in Europe during WWII and received the Purple Heart and Bronze Star medals. He was discharged after the war with the rank of Sergeant.
Victor returned to Waldoboro to work in and run the family businesses in Waldoboro until his retirement in 1980.
He loved baseball all his life and was well known for his skills as a first baseman on local town teams in the 1940’s and 1950’s. He was a lifelong Red Sox fan.
For many years he and his wife raised Morgan show horses in Waldoboro.
He was a member of the Masons, American Legion, and VFW.
He was predeceased by his sister, Joan B. Weston, of Bremen.
Survivors include his loving wife of 56 years, Muriel Heyer Burnheimer; daughter, Lynn B. Lawry and husband Oram of Waldoboro; son, Scott V. Burnheimer and wife Julie of Gorham; grandchildren, Shawn Reed of Westbrook, Kevin Reed and wife Eleanor of Rockland, Ryan Burnheimer and wife Janelle of Maple Heights, Ohio, Eric, John and Sara Burnheimer of Gorham; great-grandson, Trevor Reed of Rockland; and niece, Anne Seifert of Bremen.
Visiting hours 6-8 p.m., Sun., June 24 at Hall Funeral Home, 949 Main St., Waldoboro.
A private graveside service will be held at Rural Cemetery.
