Vincent Durwood Lewis, 92, of Trevett, died July 13 at his home on Barter’s Island.
He was born on Dec. 4, 1919, the son of Eugene and Susie Dunton Lewis, and attended local schools.
After being drafted in September of 1944, he served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Rankin, and was a decorated WWII veteran.
Vincent married Hilda Emma Alley on Aug. 23, 1941, and they were married 51 years before she passed away on Dec. 14, 1992.
Vincent was employed at Bath Iron Works for 41 years and retired as an assistant foreman in 1983.
He married Isabelle Andrews in 1993.
His interests included camping, playing cards and traveling, He was an avid Boston Celtics and Red Sox fan and enjoyed attending local high school basketball games as recently as last year.
He was a member of the Bayview Lodge #196, AF & AM, as well as a member of The Crescent Chapter #54 O.E.S. at East Boothbay and a member of Kora Shrine in Lewiston.
Vincent was predeceased by his first wife, Hilda; and grandson Randall Durwood Lewis on Dec. 14, 2003.
Survivors include children, Durwood Lewis and partner Joyce Hines, Donna McLellan, and D. Craig Lewis and wife Bonnie; grandchildren, Debora Peters, Lynda Pierce, Daniel Lewis, Richard Lewis, Seth Lewis and Melaine Hibbard; 12 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; as well as his estranged wife, Isabelle, of Boothbay Harbor.
Friends are invited to visit with the family 6-8 p.m., Mon., July 16 at the Simmons, Harrington & Hall Funeral Home, 975 Wiscasset Rd., Boothbay, with a Masonic Service at 7 p.m. Celebration of Vincent’s life 11 a.m., Tues., July 17 at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, with military honors.
