Violet Bartlett Finlayson, 95, a resident of the Lincoln Home in Newcastle, passed away on the morning of Feb. 15 at Miles Memorial Hospital in Damariscotta following a brief illness.
Vi had been a resident of Everett, Mass., Burlington, Mass., and Bedford, N.H. prior to moving to Maine in May of 2011. She was born on Jan. 1, 1917 in Everett, Mass., the daughter of Livinia (Milley) and Harold J. Bartlett.
She entered banking following graduation from Everett High School and worked in many areas of the former Middlesex County National Bank. Her career spanned 45 years. During that time, she had the distinction of earning the position of Vice President of Personnel, the first such position for a woman in the Massachusetts banking industry. Following the many banking mergers, she continued in that capacity, finally retiring from Bank of America.
Vi married Richard D. Finlayson, a life-long colleague and friend, in 1982. Together they spent 20 happy years summering at their camp in Hedding, N.H. and winters in Florida. Dick died unexpectedly in 2001. She was privileged to enjoy good health until her death. She enjoyed old movies, crossword puzzles and reading. Family and long-time friends were very important to her.
She was predeceased by her parents; sister, Marion Lonnberg; and husband, Richard D. Finlayson.
Surviving family members include brother, Herbert Bartlett and wife Connie of Bremen; nephews, Donald Lonnberg and wife Joan of Medford, Mass., and Jeffrey S. Bartlett of Niantic, Conn.; nieces, Janice Broderick and husband Peter of Towanda, Penn., Susan Fay and husband Mark of Round Hill, Va., and Karen Capece of Attleboro, Mass.; step-daughter, Wendy Finlayson O’Connell and husband John of Herndon, Va.; step-grandsons, Jeffrey and Andrew O’Connell; as well as several great-nieces and nephews.
Friends and relatives are invited to attend a funeral service 10 a.m., Sat., Feb. 18 at the Cincotti Funeral Home, 421 High St., Medford, Mass., conducted by Rev. Travis Bonnett-Kim of the Wilmington United Methodist Church, Wilmington, Mass. She will be laid to rest in the Pine Haven Cemetery in Burlington following the service.
