After years of declining health, Virginia E. (Rowe) Blake, 82, of Searsmont, died April 9. She and her husband, Howard, had celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary on March 22.
Mrs. Blake was born on Jan. 9, 1928, the daughter of Oler “John” and Helen (Patac) Rowe. She was raised in Boothbay and graduated Boothbay Harbor High School in 1946 where she won a letter in basketball.
After her marriage in 1946, she and her husband settled in Central Islip, Long Island, N.Y. and raised their two sons. After her husband’s retirement, they relocated back to Maine.
She was involved with church ministries and taught Sunday school for many years. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.
She was predeceased by her sisters, Carolyn “Patsy” Barter and Shirley Webb.
Besides her husband, she is survived by her sons and their wives, Gordon and Phyllis Blake of Monroe and Jeff and Sherry Blake of Milford, N.H.; granddaughters, Jennifer and John Farnsworth of Windsor and Debbie and Robin Blake of Milford, N.H.; great-grandson, Ryan Farnsworth; brother and sister-in-law, Henry and Grace Rowe of Boothbay; sister, Nancy Downing of Wiscasset; and many nieces and nephews.
Celebration of her life 1 p.m., Sat., April 17 at Faith Bible Baptist Church in Searsmont. Private burial will be held at a later date.
