Virginia “Jinny” Milnes Recor, 88, of Round Pond and formerly of Westport, Conn., died Dec. 16 at her home.
She was born April 17, 1919, in Rahway, N.J., a daughter of Clarence and Ada Milnes. She grew up in Rahway, N.J. and graduated from Tufts University in Medford, Mass. She had a brief career with Liberty Mutual Insurance Company.
In 1941, she married a fellow Tufts graduate, Kip Recor. Together they made their home in many states, including Massachusetts, Connecticut, Iowa, Illinois, Wisconsin, Alabama, Maine, and Connecticut as well as New Brunswick, while following Kip s career in the paper business.
She lived in Westport, Conn. for 20 years and was active in the Red Cross, Westport Garden Club, and the Saugatuck Congregational Church. In her spare time she took classes and developed her skills in American Decorative Arts, including oil painting, theorems, and reverse painting on glass.
Jinny and Kip moved to Round Pond in 2000 and she enjoyed looking out at the water every day. She was active in the Fortnightly Club at The Lincoln Home, Ad Lib Book Club at Skidompha Library in Damariscotta, and Skidompha’s Classic Film Series.
Jinny was a lifelong learner who enjoyed reading (especially history and biography), gardening, opera, and art. She was also a people person who was an important influence on all who knew her, friends from every phase of her life, her children, her nieces and nephews, and many young people who considered her their second mother. She kept in touch with them the old fashion way by writing letters.
She was predeceased by a brother, Randolph Milnes and son-in-law, David Unzicker.
She is survived by her husband of 65 years, C.R. Kip Recor of Round Pond; daughter, Rebecca J. Recor of Round Pond; son, Christopher R.
