Virginia Simmons Winchenbach, 93, of Waldoboro, passed away peacefully on March 20 at Glenridge Nursing Facility in Augusta.
Virginia was born May 29, 1916, the loving daughter of Stanley and Elizabeth Benner Simmons in Waldoboro.
Virginia attended the Historical Ledge School as a child. She spent her entire life living, raising a family and working in Waldoboro. She retired in 1976 from the Sylvania Plant where she worked for many years.
Virginia loved to knit and was well known for supplying the entire family with homemade mittens, as well as giving many pairs to local school children. She loved bowling with her “senior friends” at Oakland Park Bowling Lanes in Rockport. Little known to most, she was awarded a certificate of honorable service through the 1 Fighter Command as an Aircraft Warning Service volunteer during WWII.
