Vonceal C. Grant, 54, of Damariscotta, died at her home on July 13 after an active life pursuing many and varied interests. Vonceal was born in Damariscotta on Oct. 23, 1955 to Fernald and Donna Cunningham, the third of three children.
Vonceal graduated from Lincoln Academy and was a student athlete and cheerleader.
She followed in her Great Aunt Lucille Clark’s footsteps and worked as a teller for Damariscotta Bank & Trust for several years, and later worked for Key Bank in Wiscasset. Two of Vonceal’s life long interests were the outdoors and German Shepherd dogs. She combined the two by training Major, her German Shepherd, for show and search and rescue. They traveled throughout Maine participating in search and rescues and collected many show prizes.
Vonceal married Joseph Grant in 1990 and had a daughter Stephanie in 1992. Vonceal became a homemaker and shifted her interests to kids and school. She was very active in Partners In Education at the Wiscasset Primary School, and served as an officer for several years. Combining her love of the outdoors and love of children, she was actively involved in many school, and after school activities, occasionally accompanied by her German Shepherd dog Max.
Vonceal was an active member of the Wiscasset Yacht Club, again combining her love of the outdoors with working with people. She was actively involved in all of the club’s events, the latest being the Fourth of July chicken bake. She served as an officer and received the first “Steward of the Year” award in recognition of her enthusiastic support of the club and its members.
Vonceal has been a member of the First Congregational Church for several years.
Vonceal was predeceased by her mother, Donna R. Cunningham.
She is survived by her father, Fernald A. Cunningham of Nobleboro; daughter, Stephanie Grant of Wiscasset; and brothers, Phillip C. Cunningham and Owen F. Cunningham, both of Nobleboro.
