Warren Edward Blake, 85, of Jefferson and formerly of Hamden, Conn., passed away on Sept. 15 at the home of his eldest son in Williamsburg, Va.
He was born Dec. 31, 1923 in New Haven, Conn., a son to Edward Wales Blake and Edith Pethick Blake. He graduated from Hamden High School in Hamden, Conn.
A WWII and Korean War Veteran, he served in the U.S. Navy as an Electrician’s Mate for 10 years and was a professional firefighter for the town of Hamden for 30 years.
He married Jane Sterling Napier on May 4, 1946 and they made their home in Hamden, Conn. for 34 years in a house that Warren built. During those years they summered in Friendship and Jefferson and eventually retired to Jefferson in 1980 where they lived in another house crafted by Warren.
Warren was a member of the Free Masons, and active in the town of Jefferson, commissioned by the Mayor for a special project to assign names to all the local roads. He was a long time member of the St Andrew’s Society of Maine, serving as President for seven years and assisting in the design of the Maine State tartan.
He was predeceased by his wife Jane on Sept. 1, 2006 and two brothers, Bradford and Austin.
He is survived by his sons, Robert of Williamsburg, Va., Bradford of New Milford, Conn., and David and wife Jennifer of Williamsburg, Va.; grandchildren, Robinson and wife Jessica of Charlottesville, Va., and Megan Blake Wellman and husband Timothy of Stafford, Va.; and step-grandson, Joseph Walker of Williamsburg, Va.
Graveside service 10 a.m., Sat., Oct. 3 at Fairview Cemetery in Jefferson. Following the service, attendees are invited to gather at the Country Farm Restaurant in Whitefield.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions in Warren’s name be made to the church or charity of your choice.
