Wayne Sidney Simmons, Sr., 67, of Waldoboro, passed away on Nov. 29 at his home.
He was born on July 12, 1940 in Waldoboro, the son of the late Sidney Herbert Simmons and Evelyn Winchenbaugh Simmons.
He grew up in Waldoboro and was a graduate of Waldoboro High School. For ten years, he was employed by Sylvania before becoming a lobsterman of considerable knowledge and skill who loved what he was doing.
He enjoyed hunting, old westerns, sports and terrorizing pitchers with a potent left handed bat, back in the day. He could be frequently found across the road from his house gazing out upon Pitcher’s Cove, probably wondering if he would ever find another yellow lab like Hector. He was liked and respected by his peers and loved by his family.
He will be missed every day.
He was a member of the Meduncook Lodge #120 AF & AM of Friendship and the Friendship Fisherman Co-op.
Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Brenda Keene Simmons of Waldoboro; son, Wayne Simmons, Jr. and wife Catherine of Ellsworth; daughters, Grace Shorey and husband John of Alna, and Vicky Conary and husband Willie of Warren; mother, Evelyn Simmons of Waldoboro; grandchildren, Brandon and Brianna Shorey of Alna, Rachel, Hillary, Miranda and Mallory Conary of Warren, and Wyatt Simmons of Ellsworth; and aunt, Virginia Winchenbach of Waldoboro.
A private farewell gathering will be held at Pitcher’s Cove for close friends and family.
In Wayne’s memory, memorial donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
Arrangements are entrusted to Hall Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 949 Main St., Waldoboro.
