Wesley Umphrey, 80, of Hallowell, died Jan. 5 at his residence.
He was born in Seattle, Wash.
Wesley served his country in the U.S. Navy during WWII and later graduated from Stanford University.
Before moving to Maine, he was a college administrator and later became a management consultant, specializing in executive recruitment. He was based in Nigeria as representative to West Africa for the International Executive Service Corps.
He moved to Maine in 1989. He enjoyed buying and renovating older homes in the Hallowell area.
For seven years he worked for Health Reach Network as a case manager for Daysping AIDS Support Services. He was a member of Hallowell’s Community Development Committee and was also on Senior Spectrum’s Advisory Board, serving as a liaison in helping to develop the Cohen Community Center.
He is survived by his sister, Martha Douglas of Seattle, Wash.; several nieces and nephews; and special friends, Allen Strickland of Hallowell and Susan Stedman of Westport Island.
At his request, there will be no visitation and no funeral service.
