William A. “Bill” Clark, passed away on the evening of Aug. 21 after a long illness. He was born on March 4, 1942, the son William Alpheus Clark, and Mary Dana Clark of Damariscotta. Bill graduated from Lincoln Academy in 1960, where he excelled in athletics.
It was in this year that he met his soulmate, best friend, and bride-to-be, Diane Huggard. They were married on June 22, and were inseparable for 50 years.
He worked for several years as a big rig driver before returning to Damariscotta in 1967 to run the family business after the passing of his father. Bill is perhaps most remembered standing behind the counter of Clark’s Spa, always with a smile and a kind, gentle word.
Bill very much enjoyed the outdoors, fishing and spending time with his family. Later in life, he enjoyed building model boats and sitting on his deck in the sunshine. Bill touched the lives of many people in the community, and he will be sadly missed by all.
He is survived by the love of his life, and wife of 50 years, Diane Clark; his son, Bill; daughter-in-law, Jennifer; three grandchildren, BJ, Nathan and Austin; and his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, John and Kathy Barrett.
A service will be held at St. Patrick’s Church in Newcastle on Tuesday, Aug. 27, at 11 a.m. A reception will be held in the downstairs area of the church, immediately following the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bill’s memory to the Lincoln County Animal Shelter, PO Box 7, 27 Atlantic Highway, Edgecomb, 04556.
Arrangements are under the direction and care of the Strong-Hancock Funeral Home, 612 Main Street, Damariscotta. Condolences, and messages for the family, may be expressed by visiting www.StrongHancock.com.
