William French McFarland Jr., lifelong resident of South Bristol, died on Jan. 9 at the Togus Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Augusta.
Born in Damariscotta on April 21, 1946, he was the son of Hazel (Thompson) McFarland and William French McFarland Sr. He attended elementary school in South Bristol and graduated from Bristol High School in 1965. Following graduation, he served in the U.S. Navy, receiving an honorable discharge in 1967.
William worked for many years as a carpenter and builder in the area. This included building his own home in 1973. He was well liked by all the people he worked with, and was known for his witty sense of humor.
He is survived by his daughter, Sarah Rios, husband Andres and their twin daughters, Katherine Rose and Morgan Elizabeth, of whom he was very proud; aunt, Beryl (McFarland) Thompson; and several cousins.
A graveside service is planned for April in the Island Cemetery in South Bristol.
