William H. Isbister, 70, of Windsor, died March 20 at the Maine Medical Center in Portland with his family and friends by his side. He was born in Waterville on Aug. 27, 1939, a son of Frank and Elsie Mae Dawe Isbister.
Bill was a 1957 graduate of Williams High School in Oakland. He entered the U.S. Army in 1961 and served for 20 years retiring in 1981 as a SSGT. Bill enjoyed playing his guitar and watching the Boston Red Sox and Boston Celtics. He also enjoyed crossword puzzles, hunting/fishing and watching wildlife. Bill enjoyed the roundtable at the Windsor Diner and talking to other veterans and playing cribbage.
He was a member of the American Legion Post South China, VFW and DAV.
Bill is survived by his wife of 27 years, Shirley Kittredge Isbister of Windsor; children, Kelly Ann Whitner of Aberdeen, Wash., Sherry Ferguson of Skowhegan, William L. Isbister and wife Cheryl of China, Kelly A. Klaiber and husband Clyde of Oakland, Tara Ranks and husband Mark of Oakland, Eric Isbister and wife Michelle of Wyoming, Warren Joslyn and wife Stephanie of Windsor, Wayne Joslyn of Augusta and Bryan Joslyn and wife Terri of Windsor; brother, Roger and wife Jean Isbister of Buffalo, N.Y., Harry and wife Rae Isbister of Oakland; uncle, William Dawe of Bangor; aunt, Betty Hackett of Oakland; 13 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and his beloved dog, Newfy
Visiting hours 4-7 p.m., Wed., March 24 at Staples Funeral Home, 53 Brunswick Ave., Gardiner, with a funeral service with military honors 11 a.m., Thurs., March 25. Burial will be in the Dyer Hill Cemetery Windsor at a later date.
