William “Bill” Henry Wellman, 71, of Cushing, passed away Nov. 14 at Penobscot Bay Medical Center in Rockport.
He was born Nov. 14, 1935 in Waldoboro, the son of Lester J. Wellman, Sr. and Helen B. Creamer Wellman.
Bill grew up in Waldoboro and attended local schools. He worked as a clam digger for several years. He also worked as a handyman for neighbors in Waldoboro, providing gardening services, snow removal, and numerous household repairs. He also ran errands for those unable to get out.
Bill enjoyed watching TV, movies and baseball. He saw the Red Sox win the World Series.
He was predeceased by his parents; brothers, Lester Wellman, Jr. and Roy Wellman; and nephew, Michael Simmons.
Survivors include four sisters, Bertha Simmons of Rockland, Hazel Turner and husband Ralph of Hollis, Murtel Simmons and husband Melvin of Cushing, and Alice Dunn and husband Rick of Augusta; brother, George Wellman of Waldoboro; sister-in-law, Margaret Wellman of Nobleboro; nieces, Debbie Turner of Hollis Center, Virginia Joy and husband Ted of Westbrook, and Tammy Harrington and husband Pat of Augusta; nephews, Steven Simmons of Jefferson, Mitchell Wellman of Nobleboro, Albert and Richard Simmons of Friendship, and Roger Simmons of Warren. He is also survived by special friends that he considered his second family, Nancy Murch, Violet Waldron, Peggy Nelson, Wendell Hughes, Leon Pelletier, Louis Poulin and Kay Winchenbaugh, all of Pondview Assisted Living in Cushing.
Celebration of “Bill’s” life 11 a.m., Fri., Nov. 17 at Hall Funeral Home, 949 Main St., Waldoboro. Burial will follow in the Shuman Cemetery, Rt. 220N, Waldoboro.
