Willis R. Hallowell, 81, of Waldoboro, died June 4 at Maine Medical Center in Portland. He was born Oct. 17, 1931 in Waldoboro to Leslie and Marion Bowman Hallowell. He attended Jefferson schools and Waldoboro High School. He played baseball in high school and later for the town team. He was a Red Sox fan and avid bowler. He enlisted in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He married Carol Chapman Hallowell on Aug. 27, 1960.
He worked at Bragg’s Auto Parts in Waldoboro. He later worked at the Miller School in Waldoboro as a custodian for 22 years. He enjoyed meeting friends at Moody’s Diner and harassing the waitresses. He was a life member of the Soule Shuman VFW Post #4525 and Charles C. Lilly American Legion Post #149.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Carol Hallowell of Waldoboro; son, Mark Hallowell of Illinois; daughter, Virginia Hardy and husband Ken of Texas; sister, Sharon Hunnewell and husband Richard of Waterville; brother-in-law, Harold Chapman of Waldoboro; sisters-in-law, Vivian Day of Waldoboro, and Louise Chapman of Highland Springs, Va.; and several nieces and nephews.
There are no services for Willis.
