Winifred E. Reed, 77, of Gardiner, formerly of Bath, died Aug. 13 at her home with her family by her side.
She was born in Bath on Oct. 30, 1936, a daughter of Frank J. Robshaw and Grace E. Brown (Simmons). She graduated from Waldoboro High School in 1955. She worked as a nanny, housekeeper, factory worker and a housewife. She lived at the Washington House for 24 years. In addition to organizing many tenant potlucks, coffee and doughnut breakfasts, picnics and holiday events, she helped form and create the buildings first Residential Advisory Committee and served as the committee’s first chairperson.
On Nov. 13, 1976 she married Earl D. Reed and they resided in Wiscasset until moving to Bath in 1990.
She was predeceased by her father, Frank J. Robshaw; mother, Grace E. Brown (Simmons); son, Joseph West; step-son, Nick West; husband, Earl D. Reed; brother, Hugh Craney; and brother-in-law, Franz Pease.
Survivors include sons, David K. West of Richmond, and Daniel C. Fowle of Gardiner; daughters, Shelley E. Merrill of Richmond, and Gracie E. Wood of Fort Collins, Col.; step-daughter, Pam Teal of Rockland; brothers, Allen Craney of Rockport, Raymond Simmons and wife Carol of Damariscotta, and Ira Simmons and wife Kristine of China; sisters, Margaret Brown and husband Randall of Waldoboro, and Jenie Pease of Appleton; and sister-in-law, Dottie Craney of Warren.
A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m., Sat., Aug. 23 at the Greenlawn Cemetery on the Rumerill Road, Wiscasset.
