Go ask questions! Go exercise your citizenship! Go speak your mind!
We are incredibly fortunate to live in democracies – that’s right, democracies.
While our country is a republic – we elect representatives to govern us but play no direct role in federal decision-making – each town in Lincoln County is a democracy. The town meeting makes up the legislative body – the equivalent of Congress.
Don’t whine about the “town fathers” and what they did or didn’t do – they couldn’t do anything without your say-so at town meeting.
Read the warrant articles – a lot of them start with the words, “To see if the voters will authorize the selectmen …” or some variation thereof.
