Talking Music in Maine: Intimate Conversations — Brad Terry
This is the second installment of our new series exploring the musician’s craft with artists who have had an impact on the music scene in Maine and beyond. On Thursday, May 10 at 7 p.m., Aaron Robinson talks with Brad Terry, jazz clarinetist and world-renowned virtuoso whistler. A living legend in the jazz world, Terry has played with Dizzy Gillespie, Roger Kellaway, Doc Cheatham, Buck Clayton, Buddy Tate, and Lenny Breau, among countless others. This is a free event.
‘Isle of Dogs’ (PG-13; 1 hour, 41 minutes)
In this stop-motion-animated film from writer-director Wes Anderson (“The Grand Budapest Hotel,” “Fantastic Mr. Fox”), an outbreak of canine flu in Japan leads all dogs to be quarantined on an island. A boy (voiced by Koyu Rankin) journeys there to rescue his dog Spots (Liev Schreiber) and gets help from a pack of misfit canines who have also been exiled. His quest inspires a group of dog lovers to expose a government conspiracy. The voice cast also includes Bryan Cranston, Edward Norton, Bill Murray, Scarlett Johansson, Tilda Swinton, Bob Balaban, Greta Gerwig, and Yoko Ono. Plays Friday, May 11 at 7 p.m.; Saturday, May 12 at 2 and 7 p.m.; Sunday, May 13 at 7 p.m.; Wednesday, May 16 at 2 p.m. (with open captions) and 7 p.m.; and Thursday, May 17 at 2 and 7 p.m.
DaPonte String Quartet
The DaPonte String Quartet returns to the Lincoln Theater stage for its final concert of the 2017-2018 season. Winter Series III: “Obsessions,” features Hugo Wolf’s “Italian Serenade,” Bela Bartok’s String Quartet No. 2, Sz. 67, and Franz Schubert’s String Quartet in G Major. The concert is Sunday, May 13 at 3 p.m.
