Another column done by hand. My favorite printer needs repair beyond new ink. So here goes!
It’s snowing/raining at 10:30 a.m. on this lovely spring Tuesday. We did start the early morning with a beautiful pink sunrise.
Yesterday, the temperature hit 52 degrees and sun. I got out and did a little grounds cleanup, sorting out the good from the broken plant pots as we prepare for garden season. After that, I sat and took in some of that warmth from the sun and vitamin D. Boy, it sure felt good!
Steve and I have both had the horrible flu bug and after two weeks are beginning to recover, knock on wood. I’ve heard of lots of relapses and longer number of days to wellness. Many have even gone to the ER.
It’s April, as you know, and around here that means lots of birthdays. Today as I write on April 4, it is Jordynne Black’s day. Then on the 5th is my husband’s birthday (Happy birthday, Steve), followed by my oldest son Steven on the 6th, cousin Deborah Hanley-Morin on the 7th, Rachel Hanley on the 10th, and my sister Monica on the 12th. Those are just my immediate Aries birthdays.
Other April birthdays coming right up: John Carson on the 6th, Jamien Hallowell on the 9th, and Hannah Sigles on the 13th. Hope they are all happy ones!
Here are a few things I forgot to note last week! Congratulations to Laurie Mahan on her seat on Parks and Rec, and thank you, Gordon, for your time. Also kudos to Laurie on her recent winning photo in the LCN.
Tyler and Grace Plummer’s twin girls were born on March 22 – Stella Grace and Sophie May. The family is doing well. Congratulations!
It was wonderful to see the Cheese Cave at what used to be my grandparents’ farm, now owned by Kurt and Andrea Rauscher. The story was shown on WCSH 6 by Katie Bavoso, so knowing the farm, the people, and having followed along with its construction, I just had to watch.
As they started up the shoveled path along the side of the house, my childhood memories of the marvelous times I had there, albeit way too short, flooded my mind. Around the back and there it was — the Cheese Cave, which Kurt says can hold 720 wheels at once. It is one of only two in Maine. I’ll have to come see it in person.
Damariscotta Hardware is undergoing a makeover. And as I must live under a rock – or I don’t send out many packages – I learned that Package Express, formerly located at Damariscotta Hardware, was bought out by Supplies Unlimited two years ago.
April 1: On April Fool’s Day we had our 30th cat-tracker storm, which started a conversation with my cousin Tim Hanley on Facebook, and as we went back and forth about the prediction formula, Aunt Gerry came up with a typewritten note from Grammie Hanley dated Nov. 18, 1959 – 40 storms were predicted that year. Anyway, more physical Hanley history for the archives.
Oh, the aforementioned snow left four inches here and 14 inches in Scarborough, and Portland had 10.9 inches.
Snowdrops are out! And the ground is appearing. Easter and April vacation are fast approaching.
Have a good one!
