Memorial Day weekend is upon us, as hard as it is to believe. It seems like yesterday that we were shoveling snow and now we are swatting at black flies, trying in vain to protect ourselves and pets from ticks and complaining about how the traffic has gotten bad already. In a blink of the eye, we will be talking about Labor Day weekend. As children, summers seemed to go on and on forever; shopping for school clothes and supplies seemed light years away. What a wonderful fantasy to think that this summer could be the one that seems endless.
Don’t forget that the 10th annual ABC rummage sale at the Washington Schoolhouse is this coming Saturday and Sunday, May 27 and 28 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Drop-off day for donated goods is Thursday, May 25 from 4-7 p.m.
This summer, the schoolhouse will be offering children’s art classes. Liz Matone, who has a bachelor’s degree in illustration from Syracuse University, will teach two sessions. The first will be July 10-14 and the second will take place July 31 to Aug. 4. I will have more information concerning signing up as the dates grow closer. There are also posters around the village.
The first Wednesday night music at the Brown Church will be July 5, featuring Carolyn Cotter, a singer-songwriter. The concert will begin at 7:30 p.m.
Quote of the week: “Being a male is a matter of birth. Being a man is a matter of age. But being a gentleman is a matter of choice.”
